Nail Enhancements

Nail enhancements are product used to build an artificial nail. There are many options for nail enhancements, including acrylic, resin, gel. We work in gel at the Spa.

What is Gel?

Gel is a clear product with a honey-like consistency that is applied by brush and cured under UV light. The final result is strong and incredibly shiny. Unlike acrylic, there is no odor during application, which makes this very desirable.

Terminology

There are a few terms to know to get the service you desire:

Overlay: The nail is covered in product but kept the same length for strength and better polish adhesion.
Tips: A tip is used as an extension to lengthen the nail. Then an overlay is applied for strength.
Sculpted: Instead of using an artificial tip, the nail is created (sculpted) and lengthened using product.

Maintenance

Depending on your nail growth, enhancements can last 2-5 weeks. No matter the condition, it is recommended to visit your nail technician once a month. Your growth will create a space between the cuticle and enhancement that needs to be rebalanced or "filled." Fills are important to maintain because if left too long, the natural oils in your nails will possibly begin to lift the gels. The growing space between product and cuticle will detract from the look and gaps can invite infection. If not done in a timely manner, enhancements will need to be soaked off and freshly applied.
